You can make an easy substitution with just 2 ingredients you already have, milk and either lemon juice or vinegar. I have tried it and it worked great in my baking and I saved myself a trip to the store!
You can use any type of milk for the recipe, and you are just basically adding an acid to curdle the milk a little.
For one cup of buttermilk
First measure 1 tablespoon of either lemon juice or vinegar into measuring cup then top up with milk to 1 cup. Let sit 5-10 minutes then it is ready to use.
