There was a time not long ago when going to the library would involve tears-every single stinkin time! Bug is a bit of a worry wort and he would get wound up about having to return his books before he even signed them out. He would cry in the line up about how much he was going to love this book and how sad he was going to be when the time came to return it. We went to story time at our local library and that involved getting worked up about how he might have to sing or how he might not get to stand on his favourite square on the mat. I dragged him out several times thinking it would just get better and if I thought it was a fun idea he would too. WRONG.
So we gave up for awhile and put the library on the back burner. It turned out to be a good decision as now that Bug is a bit more mature he understands that there a lots of books and he can borrow them and choose more next time. He can request his faves and look forward to reading them again.
We went down and signed up for our libraries summer reading club at the end of July and have been reading ever since! Bug and I read all five of his choices the first day and he was so excited to colour in his honeycomb tracking sheet.
D-Man is loving all the board books they have to choose from and the pillows in the kids reading section are just made to flop out on. He is a happy little dude when we are at the library.
Have you been keeping up with reading over the summer? It is just part of our daily routine so we are always reading but it is nice for me to have some different stories to make funny voices to!
